Having had a week of fine weather our next league game against Milton Barn was finally on!
This was Simon Stones old team and having come back from celebrating Veterans Day in France, he was well up for the game.
We found out just before kick off that they only had ten men, but this was not a team that we could be complacent with.
We started brightly, making use of the extra space gained by Milton Barn only having ten men and, having had a few shots on goal. We got a corner from a deflected shot and Simon trotted into the box. Jason swung the corner in and rose like a Salmon to smash a header into the back of the net and off the crossbar. You could tell that even though he was trying to look nonchelont he was secretly jumping for joy inside!
Five minutes later and Milton Barn had equalised. With some slack defending their left winger put in a great cross for their number 17 to half volley it past Dan and into the back of the net.
We continued to press but couldn't breach their backline and we went in at half time 1-1.
Having had a constructive chat at half time, we went out and started to attack with more vigour. It wasn't long before we went 2-1 up. With great work from Marv, playing in Rosey on the left, he cut in and hit a low cross shot which managed to divert into the net, sliding in at the back post.
A few minutes later and was on the score sheet. With a roasting left foot drive he sent the ball crashing into the back of the net to make it 3-1.
Again, a few minutes later and we were 4-1 up with Rosey driving towards Milton Barn's goal, he elected to shoot rather than pass it (quel surpise!) but his shot sailed over the keeper and into the top corner of the net from 25 yards!
We lost our concentration slightly, with the ref awarding a penalty when Leroy "stamped" in his tackle. It was a fair shout and no-one apart from Leroy argued! Their player smashed his shot low into the bottom left hand corner.
Then came the best goal of the game. With Damo robbing their winger and passing the ball off to Rosie, he passed the ball across field to Dale who steamed up the wing and put in a hard low cross for to sidefoot into the corner of the net. 30 seconds after their attack and we had scored.
With the final whistle not far away, Milton Barn were awarded another penalty when Simon/Paul held their player in the box. Again, their player picked the same corner, with the ball rippling the net as Dan was still diving.
Some great performances out there, Paul Mabey was a tower at the back and played superbly as well as Simon who won some crucial tackles aswell as scoring his goal. Dave Harder was another player that did very well when he came on as did Dale. MArv and Kev battled hard in midfield and Jas and Aidan also did well. Jones scored a cracking goal with a great finish (although he could have had 10 goals had he been on target with some of his shots).. You should have gone to Specsavers!! wins man of the match for his hatrick and overall contribution. Well done boys.
It was a great game to play in and both teams fought well and fairly. It was pleasure to play against team that were there to play football, unlike our game against Stamshaw.
